Berdasarkan konsensus industri dalam pengolahan mineral, serbuk ultrafine didefinisikan sebagai serbuk dengan ukuran partikel di bawah 30 \u03bcm. Berdasarkan ukuran partikel, serbuk ultrafine biasanya dibagi menjadi tiga kategori: skala mikron (1\u201330 \u03bcm), skala submikron (1\u20130,1 \u03bcm), dan skala nano (0,001\u20130,1 \u03bcm).
